So it’s safe to say I’ve neglected the journal updates slightly, giving that it has been another month since I last wrote anything. A LOT has changed since my last entry. We successfully moved in to the flat, I have 3-4 jobs and I also have a boyfriend.
Now for those of you who know me (or are getting to know me), Charlotte Walton doesn’t do boyfriends. I am totally the independent type with a slight fear of commitment. However, I’ve been seeing Tiemen (we call him T) for a couple of months now and its all going well.
How We Met – Our Story
Tiemen worked at Wake Up, the hostel I ended up staying at for bloody 5 weeks! On my first day, we went to do the Coogee to Bondi Coastal Walk and Tiemen was leading the tour. I was with my 4 girlies so we were pretty loud amongst the group, attracting all sorts of attention. T came over to us and we got chatting. That night (he will hate me for this!), we went out to Side Bar, which is the hostel bar and he tried to ‘win me over’. He was so drunk that he was completely slurring so I left him outside and went up to bed. Half an hour later I receive a voice message from Kim’s phone, with T telling me how he is sober and wants to “hang out”. No chance.
After that he tried to avoid me for 3 days as he was so embarrassed. I kept talking to him anyway and one day he invited me to go play football with him and his friends. Since that day, we started to hang out more and more, went on day trips to various beaches around Sydney, we went on a few dates, and finally on the 4th of December, he asked me to be his girlfriend.
I remember the day so well. He messaged me that morning saying “Be ready at 7pm, wear something nice”. Now, when it comes to romance, I am completely old fashioned so this was incredible to me! He turned up at my door with a bunch of flowers and the taxi was waiting outside. It drove us to Westfield Tower, the tallest tower in Sydney and we went up to the 360 dining experience. We were given a glass of champagne upon arrival and after we had finished eating our dessert, he popped the question.
It was all very crazy and extremely weird getting used to the fact that I now had a boyfriend. People would ask me if I was single and for the first few weeks I actually had to think about my answer… mmmm actually no, I’m not… I have a bbbb–ooo–yyfriend. I struggled to say this word for months without cringing!
T quit the hostel life and began working in a restaurant again. He is an amazing Chef (absolute bloody bonus!) and is completely passionate about food. He cooked a ‘Welcoming Meal’ for us at our flat, and we invited over all of our friends. It has been a fantastic couple of months here in Sydney.
I also started working in a number of places, a restaurant, reception of a swimming pool, weddings as the photographer, and over Christmas I worked with santa at his grotto. I work a lot, but I do actually enjoy myself, and its all to save up for our 3 months of traveling at the end of the year which will be 100% worth it!
