Current situation: chilling in a hammock.

Last week I finally finished my farm work after a very long 4 months. It was very hectic week, working a 7-day week, which was ironic considering it only happened once previously! I was busy trying to organise all my things, saying goodbye to everyone with leaving meals and drinks. I barely slept at all. Because of this I came down with a really sore throat so I have been sounding like a man for a while too. I was in for a well needed treat!

The Saturday after I finished work I set off on what is going to be 12 whole weeks of traveling. My first stop was the Whitsundays Islands which I visited on my own. I stayed in a paradise resort with a giant pool and bath tubs overlooking the sea.

Exploring the Whitsundays

During the day we visited Whitehaven beach which was stunning and snorkelled with humongous fish, one of whom was called George. On an evening we had camp fires and pool parties and hung out in the hot tub under the stars. After a fantastic weekend with new friends and staff who made me copious amounts of honey and lemon tea for my throat, I met Libby at the airport and we flew down to Brisbane. The following day we met Lou and began our ‘Trip of the East Coast’.

Heading to Byron Bay

We arrived in Byron Bay 2 days ago and love it here. There is such a chilled vibe and really cool little spots for food . We went kayaking with dolphins on our first day which was amazing. We kayaked for around 2 hours in total and I was bloody knackered. It was probably to do with the fact that I was paired up with a guy who didn’t know the first thing about kayaking. The funny thing was, instead of trying to learn, I’m pretty sure he just gave up and let me do the whole thing.

On a positive note, the dolphins came up really close and you could see they had their babies with them. On the way back in we had to catch the waves and they would push you back to shore.

There was a specific technique we had to follow to prevent us from capsizing although Libs and Lou didn’t get the memo and flipped their kayak. They were the only two who ended up in the water may I add.

We rented bikes today and went to a National Park. Tea tree trees (god, that’s a mouthful) surround the lake and the oil from the tree itself go into the water making it a fabulous dunking spot to naturally soften your skin. We took some nice pictures on the way back for my blog that I’m creating. Tonight were going for $5 burgers and a night out so just chilling in a hammock for now.
