Once again it has been a month since I wrote anything so here’s a quick summary of what has been going on the past couple of weeks. We were defeated by the $5 pizza deal thus ruined our 2 day health streak. We did agree that it would be the last cheat meal, lol.
The next day we took the bus up to Bowen which was only an hours ride. We arrived at a petrol station and were told by the manager of the hostel that’s where we needed to get off. I looked at Libs, looked at where we were and very nearly stepped back onto the bus. Bit dramatic I must say.
We were literally in the middle of nowhere though and I was starting to regret my decision of moving up here. We checked into the hostel, unpacked a few things and went to meet everyone. Everyone is literally so nice and we were made to feel at home straight away. Our first weekend we were introduced to the GV. It’s the local pub here in Bowen that all the locals and backpackers go to. That night was something else. It was full of 40-50 year olds, all grinding on each other, screaming the world to all the songs at the top of their lungs. Every other minute we were being hit on and everyone wants to buy you drinks all the time. Most people would think that was good thing but I could bring myself to accept one from anyone.
We have since been back there and it was actually a good laugh. There are finally more backpackers in town to out number the crazy locals.
Monday came around and we had our first day of work. We were so lucky to start so early as the stats were reading 50 backpackers to every 1 job. It had been raining all weekend though which came to our advantage. Basically if the ground is too wet, the farmers cant use the tractors to plant the crops, therefore require the help of gullible backpackers like ourselves. Read my next blog post to see how my first day went!
