Today Libs and me left our life in Sydney as we head up the coast to find our farmwork. We decided that we’d take a mini holiday before hand to slowly ease ourselves into the environment. Coming from a huge city, (and being completely in our comfort zone) to the middle of nowhere is a slight shock on our system, but we have the beach to help us deal with that for the next few days.
This morning we woke up around 4.30 am and walked up the train station. The walk was a bit of a struggle to be honest as Libby and I haven’t been introduced to the concept of light travelling. We both had a huge backpack on our backs, a rucksack on the front and a wheelie suitcase (only a mini one) in one hand.
We arrived at Airlie beach, the gateway to the most beautiful islands in Australia, the Whitsundays. We aren’t visiting the islands though. We’re just here to lay on the beach all day, and we’re saving the rest for when we’re back with the gang.
Today we’ve had a bit of time to sort out our next move. We’ve decided to head up to a working hostel in Bowen (basically the middle of nowhere) on Thursday morning. We looked online and the place has a pool so we decided it would be a good place to crash until we wait for work.
We have also started a detox today, our last week in Sydney consisted of few too many meals and in Libby’s case, excessive alcohol consumption. We are trying our hardest to be good for the next few months so we’ll see how that goes. It doesn’t help that there is a Dominoes right outside our hostel with a $5 pizza offer. Damn.
