Have you got something on your bucket list that you have always wanted to do since you were little? Watching the Sydney fireworks on the tele every year, I have ALWAYS wanted to spend a New Years’ Eve under the Bridge and Opera House.
This year was my chance!
So, I had heard many rumours about the only way to see the fireworks up close was to buy a ticket into one of the restaurants for a NYE meal OR claim a spot by waiting from 10am in the morning. So, naturally you would consider eating at one of the restaurants – slight problem, a ticket cost around $600 PER PERSON!
I was not keen on sitting around all day in the boiling sun and I couldn’t believe people actually did it. There were 1000’s of people with umbrellas, snacks, throws, all queued up outside, waiting to claim their spot.
Luckily for me, I worked at a restaurant in Circular Quay, right in front of the Bridge/ Opera house every single day. My manager had asked me if I wanted to work the night, as it was a good laugh and you got front row views to the fireworks. The only downside of the deal was that I would be working. I kindly asked him if I could take the night off, as I didn’t want my memories of New Years Eve to be about work.
My manager, was a bloody great guy. One day he came up to me at work and said “I have something for you”. He pulled out 4 tickets to the restaurant on NYE. These tickets were basically for people who were coming to eat here, but for me and 3 friends, it meant free access into Circular Quay on NYE. WHAT A BLOODY LEGEND!
We spent the night in our apartment with a couple of friends before heading over to the fireworks, They were increible and I was so glad to tick something off my Bucket List. I also got to spend the night with my new ‘boyfriend’ and some of my new best mates.
Later we went home and had an afterparty with everyone we had met in Sydney so far. It was such a funny night and definitely a new years eve to remember.
